Frequently Asked Questions
Can I shop as a tax-exempt customer?
Yes, if you are a tax-exempt organization, our team will update your account to exempt once your tax exemption paperwork has been submitted and verified.
Is there a waiting period after I apply for an account? How long do I have to wait for access to my account?
You will have access to the store while you wait for your account to be approved but will not be able to make purchases immediately. While you’re waiting for approval, you can browse and add items to a wish list. Once your account is approved, you will be assigned a user role within your organization, providing increased access. If approved, your expanded access should open within 24 hours of applying, excluding weekends and holidays.
What is the difference between adding items to a wish list vs quote vs cart? What are the benefits of each?
Wish List - Add items to your wish list by selecting the heart icon on the product page. Create multiple wish lists at the same time. Submit wish lists to users with purchasing powers for review and purchase, if approved.
Quote - Create a price quote by selecting the ‘Add to Quote’ button on the product page. Create multiple price quotes at the same time. Quotes can be submitted to users with purchasing powers for review and purchase, or they can be sent as a quote request to your assigned account executive if further review and confirmation of pricing is desired.
Cart - Add items to your cart by selecting the ‘Add to Cart’ button on the product page. Create multiple carts at the same time, per contract, location, department, etc. Submit your cart to a user with purchasing powers for review and purchase, if approved. If you are a user with purchasing powers, you can easily convert each cart into a purchase order.
What is a B2B account? How is it different from online shopping I have done before?
Business to Business - The term B2B refers to business conducted between companies or organizations, usually a buyer and a seller or service provider.
Unlike consumer online shopping, B2B purchasing has enterprise-level limitations on who will be approved for an account (education customers only, in the case of Bluum). This exclusivity allows the seller to curate the shopping experience to fit the needs and desires of our education customers.
What are the user role levels, and how are they different from each other? What level of access does each role have?
Highest level of permissions - includes all.
Manages organization accounts, can manage multiple organization accounts.
Manages all aspects of an organization's account - approve, deny or assign users, approve wish lists, price quotes, or carts, make purchases, view organization order history, view organization invoice history, and pay invoices.
Can approve wish lists, quotes, or carts, make purchases, view organization order history.
Can create wish lists and quotes. Able to submit both to the Purchaser or Admin for approval and purchase.
I am the Super Admin of my organization and I want teachers and other users to shop, but I don’t want them to make purchases. Will I have that level of control on buy.bluum.com?
Yes. Only users assigned as the Super Admin, Admin, or Purchaser will have the ability to make purchases. Users assigned to the Limited role will have the ability to create wish lists and price quotes only, which can be submitted to your organization's users with purchasing powers. This simple escalation process allows Purchasers and Admins to decide if the desired purchase should be made or not.
My organization previously did business with Trox, Troxell, CDI, or Tierney, what does this mean for me now that they have merged to become Bluum? What is Bluum, and how is it different from the company I previously worked with?
The name “Bluum” replaces all prior brand monikers – like Trox, Tierney, Trox + Tierney, or CDI affiliates – in our daily exchanges with customers, vendors, and within the company. Bluum Technology is our moniker for doing business with enterprise customers (e.g., corporate, small and medium-sized businesses or SMB, governments and their constituent public agencies).
Bluum and Bluum Technology are trademarks used to market the various affiliate legal entities which bear a derivation of the Bluum name. The actual Bluum legal entity names are used in contracts and agreements when referring to the company, replacing former legal entity names such as CDI Computer Dealers, Inc.
Trox + Tierney was our interim brand name following the joining of those two companies. We have aligned our vision, mission and shared values, as well as capitalized on our complete portfolio and emerged under a single brand – Bluum. Education is the single most achievable step toward a more positive and equitable tomorrow. At Bluum, we believe in a future where everyone has access to a great education, and we’ve made it our mission to bring it into reality.
The act of ‘blooming’ signals a moment of transformation, the right set of resources and knowledge coming together to create something greater than the sum of its parts. Starting now, we open up to the world and become a catalyst for growth in every season. From the first day of kindergarten to graduation and beyond, Bluum empowers educators with the resources and knowledge to help their students flourish.
I have an existing contract with Trox, Troxell, CDI, or Tierney. How does their rebrand to become Bluum affect that contract?
Your contract will be valid and will operate as normal until the contract expiration date. Once expired, any renewals or new contracts will be managed directly with Bluum.
If my organization previously had an e-comm account with Trox, Troxell, CDI, or Tierney, do I still have access to those accounts? Do I have to create a new account with buy.bluum.com?
No. You do not have access to those accounts anymore, but our process for creating a new one is streamlined for your convenience.
